day 3.
we received constructive criticism today from two men. that drove under us. got off the exit. parked. and came to talk to us personally. to show their support and express their love for what we are doing.
the first: "i love your signs. but with sun behind you, it's really hard to read. just a thought. but im loving it."
the second: "i love what you are doing, first off. it would be easier to read if the letters were bolder. and maybe making the letters translucent so the sun will shine through. we should do it on the other side where the sun would be in front of us. but then i wouldnt be able to see your message. you guys are doing a really good thing."
we then met caleb. a supporter.
"im in a transition period right now as well. finding it hard to let go. of everything."
we started discussing what we were trying to do and why we were there. and we found out that he was painter and he was wondering why he chipped paint off of rich peoples windows for four hours at a time. he began questioning what he spends his time doing and if he's finding fulfillment in what he does. he then held our sign. and took the picture above.
he then told us that he was late to work because he told his boss that if he saw us today that he was going to stop and talk.
we believe he walked away feeling better.
one of our regulars by foot stopped again today. this time was different. she told use that she had a dream about having a conversation with us. she then invited us to her costume birthday party. because of this.
we met several business owners. a book store. a costume shop.
lady from the costume shop questioned our question. we put her in control of asking herself the question. she talked about how unhappy the world has been. since forever. no change occurs. once again we were in a conversation about our motivations. she talked of unhappiness creating unhappy people and happy people creating happiness. she invited us to her store to find a costume that would create happiness in us to project happiness to others. she then walked away and soon turned back and reassured us that we and the babies being born today are the generation. to create change.
we found a professional name today.given to us by a biker. CHANGE AGENTS.
there was a gentlemen in a car with his wife and kids. stopped to ask us what our sign meant. we thought initially that he was pissed because he didnt seem to understand what we were saying and his wife looked uninvolved. when we were walking back towards the car to leave. we noticed that he had dropped his wife and kid off and was walking towards us on the sidewalk. he couldnt help but ask for more clarification, he said. he wanted to know more. initially, he looked unaccepting when he first saw us. but the second time, there was a genuine interest in his voice. and on his face. he asked if it was for political reasons. or for spiritual reasons. we told him it was up to him to interpret.
we had another regular. walk by. she read the sign. said "interesting." and walked away. then stopped. turned around. and smiled saying that "it was a really good question. and she was going to think about it all day."
we even had a police officer stop twice. once to read the sign. then came back hours later to ask if we needed a water break. and to tell us that he LOVES what we are doing.
